Prominent Nashville engineer Nancy Sullivan elected as board chair

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 30, 2024) – The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA), which owns and operates Nashville International Airport® (BNA®) and John C. Tune Airport® (JWN®), announced newly elected officers of the Board of Commissioners. Nancy Sullivan has been elected chair, James W. “Jimmy” Granbery was re-elected vice chair, and Andrew W. Byrd was re-elected to serve as board secretary. In accordance with the commission bylaws, these leadership changes will go into effect on July 1, 2024**.**

“The MNAA board’s leadership, strategic vision, and dedication are instrumental in the Authority’s drive to build two world-class airports,” said Doug Kreulen, president and CEO of Nashville International Airport. “We extend our gratitude to Commissioner Joycelyn Stevenson for her service and outstanding leadership as board chair, and we welcome Nancy Sullivan into her new leadership role as Board Chair. Under Chair Sullivan’s leadership, we will continue working to exceed the growing travel demands of the Middle Tennessee region, both today and in the future.”

The seven-member Board of Commissioners, appointed by the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County Mayor and confirmed by the Metropolitan Council, governs, and sets policies for the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority. The Board is comprised of seven representatives in the fields of engineering, law, industry, commerce, and finance with at least two holding a private pilot’s rating or higher qualification. In addition to the newly elected officers, Robert J. “Bobby” Joslin, Joycelyn A. Stevenson, Esq., and Dr. Glenda Glover serve as commissioners.

Nancy B. Sullivan, P.E. – Chair   

Nancy Sullivan was appointed to the MNAA Board in 2018 by former Mayor David Briley and reappointed in 2022 by former Mayor John Cooper. She was elected as board chair while concurrently serving as the vice chair of the Operations, Engineering & Strategic Planning (“Operations”) Committee. Sullivan previously served as vice chair and secretary of the board, chair of Audit and Compliance Committee, vice chair of Management, Audit and Compliance (“Management”) Committee and vice chair of General Aviation, Operations, Planning and Engineering Committee. In her professional role as a leading expert in the environmental field, she co-founded Triad Environmental Consultants, Inc., in 1996, which was acquired by Montrose Environmental Group, Inc. in August 2022. Now serving as the Principal Engineer and Operations Manager at Montrose, Sullivan provides effective and innovative solutions to tackling complex environmental challenges. Her expertise supports critical needs for commercial and government clients, encompassing air quality measurement, laboratory analysis, regulatory compliance, emergency response, permitting, engineering, and remediation. In her dedication to community engagement, she brings a wealth of leadership experience through her involvement with the Lipscomb University Civil Engineering Advisory Board and as a friend of Two Rivers Mansion. Previously, she served as president of the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers (Nashville Chapter) and the Nashville Adult Literacy Council. She also held board positions with the Donelson/Hermitage YMCA and the TSPE State Chapter and participated on the Metro Nashville Air Advisory Committee. Sullivan holds a Bachelor of Science from David Lipscomb College (now Lipscomb University) and a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Vanderbilt University. She is married to Mickey, and they have two children, Paul and Misty. They are also proud grandparents to Ciana.

James W. “Jimmy” Granbery – Vice Chair

Jimmy Granbery was appointed to the board in 2018 by former Mayor David Briley and reappointed in 2021 by former Mayor John Cooper, and currently holds the position of vice chair. He also serves as vice chair of the Management, Audit and Compliance (“Management”) Committee. Granbery previously served chair and secretary of the board, chair of the Finance, Diversity and Workforce Development (“Finance”) Committee and vice chair of BNA Vision Committee. Furthermore, Granbery holds the position of Chair of H.G. Hill Company and Chair/CEO of H.G. Hill Realty Company, LLC, both of which have remained family-owned and operated in Nashville for an impressive six generations. Granbery has a rich history of civic and community involvement, currently serving as chair of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission.  He formerly served on the board of the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency, and as the chair of the Urban Land Institute’s Nashville District. His impressive commitment to community engagement extends to prominent leadership roles on the boards of the Nashville Zoo, Martin Methodist College (now the University of Tennessee Southern), and the YMCA of Middle Tennessee. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) from the University of Mississippi.  Granbery is married to Jamie, and they have two children, Marion Floyd and Treanor Granbery and four grandchildren, Franklin Floyd, Helen Floyd, Clayton Granbery, and Bowen Granbery.

Andrew W. Byrd – Secretary 

Andrew Byrd was appointed to the board in 2021 by former Mayor John Cooper, and currently holds the position of secretary.  He also serves as chair of the Finance, Diversity & Workforce Development (“Finance”) Committee. Byrd is the Founder and CEO of TVV Capital, a private equity investment firm. His dedication to community service is evident through his significant involvement, including his role as Chairman of Monroe Carell Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, helping to establish the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, serving as President of the Middle Tennessee Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and being elected as Clerk of the Session at First Presbyterian Church in Nashville. Byrd earned his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Juris Doctor (J.D.) degrees from Vanderbilt University and his Master of Laws (L.L.M.) in taxation from Georgetown University. Married for over four decades to his wife, Marianne, he’s the proud father of three and grandfather of four.
